I think ADSL will always be better than cable for many reasons. But I guess it really depends.

ADSL is subject to such things as line conditioning and distance from the exchange, where as cable is basically shared bandwidth - and although this doesn't both too many people of now - it does slow down your own connection. Cable is also less avaliable than ADSL.

As far as the core technology goes cable is meant to clock speeds up to but not over 10Mbit/s (in theory) where as ADSL2 up to 12MBits in ideal circumstances, and ADSL2+ greater still here (http://www.internode.on.net/adsl2/adsl2graph.htm).

My bad,

Telstra only allows for 10mbit although the DOCSIS 1 (which they run) and do speeds thereabouts 50mbit.

I say.. ADSL < CABLE < ADSL2/2+ (in most our cases).

i even prefer std dsl to cable.. friends with it complain about alot of inconsistency..

bugger, friend told me my exchange was being upgraded with agile dslam's in q3 this year.. but its not on the list.. just went checked.. arg!! :(

12000/1000's good enough for me re: "true" adsl2 :)

(altho speed ultimately dependant on line distance and quality)

how do u mean tho?

how do u mean tho?

this is still basically ADSL1 capabilities.
(eg thats why u can get it on ADSL1 hardware)

Real ADSL2 should be able to go at around 20+ MB/sec
you dig?
